In 2002 Rajaton was asked to sing Christmas songs in a TV movie also featuring famous Finnish actor Ismo Kallio reciting Christmas poetry, and our young ensemble of course eagerly took up the challenge. The end result was the movie Rajaton Joulu (Boundless Christmas) that was broadcasted on Finnish national TV on Christmas Eve. Most of the repertoire in the movie ended up on our first Christmas album Joulu, released the next year. Quite a few of our Christmas song arrangements – performed on numerous Christmas tours thereafter – were premiered during the shoot of the movie, and some of the versions sounded quite different indeed from what they are today. The significance of this movie for the success of Rajaton's Christmas tours in the following years, and thus for our whole career, is unquestionable.

Ten years and nine Christmas tours later, in 2012, we released our second Christmas album, Jouluyö, and based on its material a new Christmas movie Hiljainen Jouluyö (Silent Christmas Night) was produced. It was shot in the scenic landscapes of Finnish Lapland and was broadcasted on TV on Christmas Eve, just like the first movie was.

We have now packaged both of the two movies on one DVD which is due to be officially released on November 4th but is already available for pre-order at Rajaton Store.
